But Tech Tips isn’t just a blog series — it’s part of a brand-new Resource section coming soon to our website. It’s designed to be a go-to library for operators, fleet managers, and distributors who want to sweep smarter.

To kick things off, let’s tackle a simple but important maintenance question:

Is It Time to Replace Your Street Sweeper Broom?

To determine if it’s time for a replacement, measure from the outer bristle tips to the broom core:

  • Main Brooms: Replace at 7.0 inches
  • Gutter Brooms: Replace at 6.0 inches

Broom Down Pressure: Why It MattersKeystone Gutter Broom

Too much pressure? You’ll lose the flicking action and wear out bristles faster.
Too little pressure? You won’t pick up debris effectively.

How to Check It:

  1. Lower the broom and rotate it at normal speed while stationary.
  2. Lift and inspect the sweeping path: it should be 2–4 inches wide.

Pro Tip from Keystone

Use high-quality broom filaments from Keystone Plastics for reliable, long-lasting performance.

Bonus: Use the Bristle Wear Ruler!

To make it easier to measure broom wear, use our fun and functional Bristle Wear Ruler!

  • If your main broom is at or below 7.0″, it’s time to replace.
  • For gutter brooms, the replacement point is 6.0″.
