Is It Time to Replace Your Street Sweeper Broom?
Worn brooms don’t just perform poorly. They can also cost you more in the long run. Here’s how to know when it’s time to swap them out.
To determine if it’s time for a replacement, measure from the outer bristle tips to the broom core:
- Main Brooms: Replace at 7.0 inches
- Gutter Brooms: Replace at 6.0 inches
Broom Down Pressure: Why It Matters
Too much pressure? You’ll lose the flicking action and wear out bristles faster.
Too little pressure? You won’t pick up debris effectively.
How to Check It:
- Lower the broom and rotate it at normal speed while stationary.
- Lift and inspect the sweeping path: it should be 2–4 inches wide.
