Gutter Broom Terminology

Understanding Gutter Broom Terminology: Key Terms Explained

With so many broom types, sweeper models, and manufacturers in the industry, Keystone recognized the need to develop terminology to identify various gutter broom styles and the sweepers they are used on. Learn more about each below.

150KP Gutter Broom (4-Section)

The 150KP is a 4-section gutter broom. Each section has 32 bristle holes designed for the standard 26″ wire. The wire is bent in half before being inserted into each hole, creating a 13″ length measured from the bottom of the wire to the top of the broom head. The mounted broom has a 44″ diameter.

This style is commonly referred to as the Wayne gutter broom, originating from the old Wayne sweeper. Today, it is compatible with Global Environmental Vanguard sweepers, Stewart-Amos sweepers, and the Johnston 3000/4000 sweepers.

250KP Gutter Broom (4- and 5-Section)

The 250KP is the most common gutter broom, available as a 4-section or 5-section depending on the sweeper model. Each section contains 31 holes. A 4-section broom has a 36″ diameter, while the 5-section version measures 46″ in diameter.
This broom is standard on Elgin sweepers, with variations between the 4-section and 5-section. Additionally, it is an option for the Crosswind and Whirlwind, which typically use a 2-section 650 block. It is also used on Schwarze, Stewart-Amos, Tymco, Nite-Hawk Supervac, Tennant Centurian, and Xbroom sweepers.

The 4-section 250KP is available with standard 26″ wire or a shorter 22″ wire for the SuperVac S-Series and Tymco 210 sweepers.

350KP Gutter Broom (4-Section)

The 350KP is a 4-section broom with 35 holes per section and a finished diameter of 43″. Originally designed for the Athey Mobil sweeper, it remains in use for refurbished Mobil units. The Tymco 600 also uses the 350KP broom.

650KP Gutter Broom (2-Section)

The 650KP is a 2-section broom with 30 holes per section and a 16″ diameter. It is available with standard 26″ wire, 26″ poly, or a combination of poly and wire.
This broom fits Elgin Crosswind and Whirlwind sweepers, Johnston 605 and 650 sweepers, and Nite-Hawk sweepers. Caterpillar attachments, as well as Broce and SB Manufacturing road construction sweepers, also have models compatible with the 650KP.

750KP Gutter Broom (2-Section)

The 750KP is a 2-section broom with 24 holes per section and a 13″ diameter. It is commonly used with Bobcat and Sweepster attachments.

1100KP Gutter Broom (12-Section)

The 1100KP, also known as the SureGrip, is a 12-section broom with 12 holes per section and a finished diameter of 44″. It is compatible with Global Environmental Vanguard sweepers and Johnston Allianz 3000/4000 sweepers.

Additional Options

The Tymco 210 and Schwarze SuperVac sweepers can use a 10″ x 36″ sloped wafer with poly bristles angled to replicate a traditional gutter broom.

While gutter brooms may vary in style, their basic construction remains the same: wire bristles set in a plastic block bolted to the sweeper’s drive plate. It’s just a matter of finding the right fit for your sweeper.
